Adnan Baraky

Born in Swaida, Syria, Adnan’s love of music appeared at an early age playing various instruments, however, he was given his first oud at the age of fourteen. Adnan's natural talent was obvious, and in 2002 he was accepted into the prestigious Higher Conservatorium of Music in Damascus. He studied with oud masters Ali Akbar (Azerbaijan) and Samir Orabi (Syria), exploring middle-eastern, Arabic and western classical music.

Adnan was a regular soloist with the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, performing at the orchestra's tenth anniversary concert and the opening of the Syrian Opera House in 2004.

Adnan relocated to Australia in 2008 where he released his debut album Dinaan in 2011, featuring original works for the oud that draw on both his Syrian heritage and Australian experiences. Adnan was invited to play at Australia’s largest festivals including the National Folk Festival and WOMADelaide. He currently resides in Sydney, Australia, where he is persuing his doctoral research in composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
